What’s happening

  • September 15, 2025 -- The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) stopped delivering Neighbourhood Mail, including flyers and community ads.

  • September 25, 2025 -- Minister Joël Lightbound, the federal Minister for Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement, announced federal government plans to transform Canada Post that align with the Industrial Inquiry Commission’s recommendations (May 2025). These measures aim to modernize and stabilize Canada Post for the long term, including ending daily mail delivery and transitioning to community mailboxes. The union said the plan and the latest contract offer were a step backwards and declared a countrywide strike.

  • October 1, 2025 – In a letter to Canadians from Canada Post President and CEO, Doug Ettinger, regarding measures like community mailboxes: “Currently, less than one in four households still receives door to door delivery. Converting more households to community mailboxes will fuel significant savings. This initiative includes our well-established delivery accommodation program. Used by more than 17,000 households, it ensures we can meet the delivery needs of Canadians who have accessibility challenges.” Watch a video about the accessibility program.

  • October 3, 2025 – Canada Post presented its latest offer to CUPW.

  • October 9, 2025 -- CUPW announced its members would move from a full, national strike to rotating strikes starting October 11, 2025. CUPW leadership has met with Minister Lightbound on two recent occasions (October 8 and 15) to encourage the government to revise its directed plans for Canada Post and consider other options.

What this means for your business

Mail is moving across the country. While we’re not aware of which locations will be impacted through rotating strikes, we are closely following all communications by CUPW, Canada Post and the federal government. Canada Post is updating rotating strike locations on its Negotiations Update page. As operations resume, Canada Post is processing all mail currently trapped in the network. On-time delivery guarantees, and date-specific Neighbourhood Mail continue to be unavailable.

Our 5.8 million household national partner network of newspapers, private distributors, and community publishers is available for clients who wish to proceed during the disruption. DRMG can also provide cost-effective print-only supply from our in-house print facility for in-store use, events, or future mailings. Why this matters

In the last year, Canadians and Canadian businesses have been subject to more than 170 days of strike activity by the CUPW including two national strikes. This prolonged period of instability, uncertainty and disruption has significantly impacted Canadians and Canadian businesses, often without warning. Alignment with the current need to reduce federal costs while also treating Canada Post employees fairly grows more urgent.

But this dispute isn’t just about wages or modernization. It’s also about whether Main Street Canada survives. It’s a turning point for Canada Post, for the businesses who depend on it, and for every Canadian community that thrives when local shops, businesses, and services succeed. When small businesses win, we all do.

Our commitment

Our purpose has always been clear: help Canadians save, businesses grow, and neighbourhoods thrive. We’re committed to providing you with updates and the details you need. Please connect with your account manager with any questions.
