For more than a century, families of The Oakville Club have played and worked together to promote sport, recreation and social activities in Oakville and the surrounding areas. One of the clubs most significant contributions, however, comes in the form of their charity work.

On May 25th, 2016 The Oakville Club held it’s 7th Annual Men’s Golf Tournament in support of the Ian Anderson House. Men from The Oakville Club gathered at the Piper’s Heath Golf Course for the seventh consecutive year to help raise funds for Ontario’s first in-resident cancer hospice. The Ian Anderson House has admitted more than 2000 individuals since first opening its doors in November, 1997.

True to the philosophy of hospice care, The Ian Anderson House offers without charge quality end-of-life palliative care in a home-like setting to individuals diagnosed with terminal cancer and a limited life expectancy. The comfort, privacy and care they receive after their terminal diagnosis are of great comfort to both the patients and their families.

Organizers of The Oakville Club’s Annual Men’s Golf Tournament including Michael Judge, David Angas, Jason Bradbury and John Thistlethwaite worked tirelessly to ensure the day went off without a hitch. The weather cooperated and volunteers and golfers alike had a fun, competitive day on the greens playing the beautiful Piper’s Heath Golf Course.

Participants were in fine form on the course and extremely generous off the course too. This year The Oakville Club raised $30, 000 for the Ian Anderson House, helping to propel the charity towards its annual goal. Congratulations to all those involved!

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, 78, 000 Canadians died of cancer in 2015.  In order to continue to operate and provide quality hospice care without charge for the over 600 referrals they receive annually, the Ian Anderson House needs to raise an additional $800, 000. That’s why events like The Oakville Club’s Annual Men’s Golf Tournament are so important.

In addition to The Oakville Club’s Annual Men’s Golf Tournament, The Ian Anderson House relies on the dedication and generosity of individuals, service clubs, foundations, local businesses and fundraising events, including:

  • The Walk/Run for the Care is an annual event held in June in which supporters of The Ian Anderson House can come together for a day of honouring loved ones lost while getting exercise and raising money for a good cause
  • The IAH Golf Tournament is run annually at the Indian Wells Golf Course
  • The Tree of Lights is an international hospice tradition that offers comfort to family members who would like to honour their loved ones while helping to support The Ian Anderson House

The money raised from these events goes directly to The Ian Anderson House’s operating costs, including covering the costs of medical care and staff. No donation is too big or too small. All donations of $15.00 or more will receive a receipt for income tax purposes. For more information, or to make a donation, please contact Margaret Marino at (905) 337-8004 ext. 225.
